This workshop aims to give the participant a set of knowledge and skills to understand the general concepts of construction with adobe and to practice in a practical way to manipulate various techniques of construction with clay so that they can apply in their own houses or simply increase the your practical knowledge!
Along the workshop we are going deepen the techniques and construction in clay through the element “adobe”, understand the advantages of using this technique, and realize how to merge the knowledge of today with the techniques used in the past, so that our constructions whether with natural materials, highly efficient and in harmony with nature.
You have the opportunity to learn and put into practice the techniques of natural construction so that you can create space with your own hands, using the resources of nature, so as to inhabit it.
What is adobe?
The constructive technique in adobe has been used for thousands of years by humanity. Its remote application for more than 6000 years and has been diffused around the world due to its ease of production, ease of application and versatility of uses and forms.
The adobes are earth bricks produced by hand and dried in the sun, acquiring in this way the physical properties necessary to build from the walls, arches to roofs like domes and vaults.
The construction with adobe allows to construct freestanding buildings without being necessary to resort to polluting materials or with great environmental impact.
In Portugal this technique, although it has been used since the beginning of the 20th century, is still found in buildings throughout the country.
In this workshop you will learn from the production of adobes to its application in different uses and forms.
